Spring Season

2020_[02] February_Cal Hi Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is Cal High's premier concert ensemble. This is an audition only ensemble. While membership for this ensemble is competitive, we believe that any student can make this ensemble during their high school career so long as they demonstrate a strong work ethic, a desire to grow as a musician and strong musical proficiency. This ensemble meets regularly during the Spring semester and performs at various local concert band festivals. While private lessons are not required for this ensemble, studying with a private instructor has been proven to expedite student's musical progress and is highly encouraged. Auditions for Wind Ensemble are held in the Spring of the preceding academic year.

Symphonic Band, formerly known as Concert Band, is our non-audition ensemble. This means that anyone who would like to join band and has a basic understanding of their instrument can participate in this ensemble. The Symphonic Band meets regularly during the Spring Semester and performs at various local concert band festivals and concerts. In this ensemble, students will learn the skills necessary to grow as strong ensemble players.

After marching season, the Color Guard performs in Winter Guard competitions. Winter Guard is the indoor competitive season. Competing in high school gyms around the area, the winter guard season allows for closer audience interaction and intricate choreography to take place.  CHS WG has earned top placements at many WGASC competitions. Over the last 7 years, they have become Silver and Gold Medalists at multiple WGASC Championships. There are now 2 teams to represent Cal Hi in 2 divisions. Winter Guard Blue competes in WGASC HSA and Winter Guard Gold competes in WGASC HSAA.
